Snow Beautiful Snow!

As most of you know, the DC area has been completely hit with snow this past weekend. They are calling it 'Snowmagedon.' The federal government has been closed for approximately three and a half days and counting. They just cannot remove the snow fast enough. There is also no place to put the snow. I never remembered that problem in Utah. Where I live we had 25 inches and where I work they got 34 inches. Image three feet of snow all at once.
I have the best neighbors ever! Julie and I were inside packing all day on Saturday when it was snowing so much. I wanted to be out shoveling, but I knew I only had energy for one activity. Well, my neighbors shoveled my walk the whole day and my stairs. I only had to do a little when I went out at night. I was blown away when I went outside to see all the snow. I convinced Julie to come out and see all the snow and to help me shovel out my car.
Julie's showing off the tip of my windshield wipers that I had put up before the storm hit. Notice where her arm is and how incredibly high the snow is. The problem is we didn't have anywhere to put it. We had had a storm prior to this one so the snow was already piled up on the ground. Then with the walk needing to be shoveled a lot it made it so there was no where to put the snow. The place next to Julie is Karen's parking spot and she didn't want us to put snow there.
So my solution was to get into the snow pile and shovel it further back towards the house so that we would have a place to put the snow. We would also carry it up my front steps and dump it over the sides. We had been packing all day so it was really exhausting.

Oh, the packing...I found a place to live in Herndon. It's three miles to my place from work and takes approximately eight minutes to get there. I can also bike to work from there. I am so excited that I get to live alone!!! I opened up the fridge and said 'It's all mine!!!' There is a lot of storage space in the apartment and it is very open and airy. I am sooooooo excited. I can move in this weekend which I really pray will happen. With all the snow, people, including me, have been snowed in. They have not done the main street outside my house. I went out once to take Julie to the metro and I think I may have done some damage to the bottom of my car. I also found out today that my front tires are bald so I really cannot go out unless the road is clear.
I start paying rent on the 12th so I really want to move this weekend.

Here's Julie showing all the packing we were doing. She was such an incredible help. I don't think I would have at least half of what we got done by myself. (Does that sentence even make sense.) I am so grateful she came down. She was snowed in with me until Monday. She was not only so helpful for the packing, but for the shoveling too. I really am amazed at what we were able to accomplish together. Seriously it was amazing!

Now remember how I said I was moving this weekend. Well, part of the problem with moving is not only that people may not be able to get out of their neighborhood to get here, but even if they do some of my furniture has to go out the back of my house. Now remember we got almost three feet of snow. So...I had to shovel out a huge area just for moving.

Here I am in the backyard shoveling out my patio just to move on to the rest of the area below.

So this whole area had to be cleared out plus another uphill area. I finally called some LDS guys that I found out live across the street (I just found this out last Sunday. The irony of the situation is not lost on me. I was so incredibly sad that finally cute guys live by me and I'm moving. Grrrr) and they came and helped. I was so glad because Julie and I had done so much we were just not feeling it. So it was so nice to have their help!

After we had spent hours and hours shoveling it is now snowing again outside. Ahhh! I've already asked the guys to come help me shovel again on Wednesday or Thursday. Hopefully we won't get as much snow as they predict.

Here is a beautiful scene from my backyard. It was really stunning with all snow on the trees etc.
